Cordon and Search is to instil secure feeling among public: Kamareddy SP
Kamareddy: "The basic objective of cordon and search (C&S) operation is to instil a secure and safe feeling in the minds of the people," stated Kamareddy Superintendent of Police N Swetha Reddy.
Along with the district police, she conducted search operation at Pitlam mandal headquarters in the pre-dawn hours of Tuesday. Deputy Superintendent of Police Yadgiri, Circle Inspector Naveen Kumar, and Sub-Inspectors of Jukkal and Banswada constituencies participated in this operation. As many as 200 police personnel were participated in the search operation, who were divided into nine teams - search team, four cut-off teams, and lifting & arresting team.
Surveillance has been increased due to the proximity of the national highway. 150 bikes and four autos were seized, without valid documents.
Speaking on the occasion, SP Swetha Reddy dispelled the public suspicions. She said that earlier they used to conduct the cordon and search to identify crime-prone localities. First, they will collect background data on suspects, strangers and their activities at a locality and then will conduct the operation as a surprise event.
But, over a period of time the need to make the concept of Cordon and Search operations clear to the people was felt and in order to promote community policing too, the Kamareddy police have decided to make the operations a more frequent affair.
"We now meet more people and families and explain to them what we are doing," she said. During the operations, the police will conduct meetings where they will talk
about the importance of having CCTV cameras in localities, their initiatives, and build the feeling of community ownership among the people," she added.
The SP said that during the operations, the police will check the background of the people living in the area with the help of the TSCOP application. If there is any criminal background detected for any individual, cops will question them at the police station.
SP Swetha Reddy said that people have now understood the importance of the initiative and are cooperating. Not only we won their confidence, but appreciation too is coming in, she added that she is glad that this initiative of cordon and search operation is welcomed by the people. "What more, when we knock the doors, people are opening the doors with a smile and offering us snacks and tea," the SP said.
