Curtains down on intense campaign
Khammam: With Tuesday being the last day of the campaign for the Parliamentary elections to be held on Thursday, the contesting candidates of political parties took part in intense canvassing on the day. Meanwhile, the Election Commission has made all the necessary arrangements for the polling.
The campaign for MP elections has been intense with 23 candidates competing with each other to attract voters in Khammam Parliamentary constituency. Every leader and party worker took the campaign seriously and started wooing people right from the day of notification.
There are 15.13 lakh voters in the Khammam Parliamentary constituency, among them 7.73 lakh are female voters, 7.89 male voters and 66 belong to third gender.
Voting will be held from 7 am to 5 pm, whereas in some sensitive polling centres located in rural areas polling would be wrapped an hour earlier i.e., at 4 pm. Khammam Parliamentary election Returning Officer and District Collector RV Karnan announced that poling would end at 4 pm in Aswaraopeta and Kothagudem Assembly constituencies.
He also added that web monitoring and web casting of polling would be done. Khammam police commissioner Tafseer Iqbal appealed to voters and political parties to not to participate or organise any public meetings and cooperate with police department in view of Section 144 being in place in Khammam district. He also informed that all the wine shops have been ordered to close till elections and anyone who failed to comply with would be apprehended immediately.
