CWC delegation in city to probe Wakf scam?

Nampally: A delegation of Central Wakf Council (CWC) on Tuesday made a visit to State Wakf Board office reportedly as part of a probe into alleged mega scam of Dargah Hussain Shah Wali and other issues including misuse of office, findings, mismanagement, criminality and allegation of corruption in the newly formed State of Telangana.

According to sources, even though this is not an official inquiry into the allegations, the objective of the CWC delegation is a sort of inquest into scores of accusations being made by activists.

Amongst these issues some of the cases have already landed in courts.

The delegation comprised Wasim Rahat Ali Khan, Md Afzalul Haque, Rais Khan Pathan, Naushad Ali, who were joined by another member hailing from Hyderabad Haneef Ali.

Later, speaking to media persons, one of the members Rais Khan Pathan explained that the meeting between the CWC members and Wakf Board was fruitful and several unresolved issues were discussed and reached a conclusion.

Some complaints made against the existing board were also discussed and the Chairman and others put forward their points of view and tried to explain the way issues were tackled.

"The Wakf Board has cooperated with us and we are satisfied with their explanation on issues of land grabbing as well as legal decisions made to curtail the trend. They had explained as to how tough measures were adopted in tackling the matter of concern. If possible inquiry will also be initiated," said Pathan.

State Wakf Board chairman Md Saleem said that CWC was extending all kinds of support to counter possibility of encroachment of Wakf lands.

He said that Rs 8 lakh pending bills of CWC would be cleared shortly.

"We are ready to cooperate with the CWC in helping probing the cases related to big properties," said Saleem.

The newly appointed CWC took note of the allegations related to Dargah Hussain Shah Wali in Ranga Reddy district, Dargah Hazrath Shah Khamoosh in Nampally and Wakf lands in Manikonda which were made by Civic society amongst other cases.

It may be mentioned here that members of previous CWC in their reports to Union government demanded an CBI enquiry, as Wakf Board lands worth thousands of crores were encroached upon.

It found that the State government allowed damages to the tune of Rs 2,000 crores to the Wakf properties attached to Dargah Hazrath Shah Khamoosh properties.

Enquiry against police officers and Mutawally was sought, besides stopping of grants and financial assistance to State Wakf Board.
