Cycle rally spreads awareness on environment in Warangal

Warangal: The onus is on every citizen to avoid the use of plastic so that enriching the environs, the Government Chief Whip D Vinay Bhaskar said.

He along with Greater Warangal Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao and ZP chairman M Sudheer Kumar took part in a cycle rally organised by the INTACH on the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's 150th birth anniversary on Wednesday.

After garlanding the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at the Public Gardens, the leaders took part in the cycle rally that culminated at Padmakshi temple.

Referring to the hazardous effects of the plastics, Vinay Bhaskar said that it's beyond one's imagination to estimate the kind of damage being done to the environment. The drainages were getting choked due to the clogging of plastic bags and materials. It was resulting in the overflowing of drainages thereby damaging the roads, he said.

The adverse effects of plastic are causing environmental imbalances, he said, referring to the drought and unseasonal rains.

Prakash Rao appealed to people to idolise Mahatma Gandhi. He said that they are going to set up 58 jute and paper bag manufacturing units in GWMC limits. The administration has already started training classes for women who run these units.

INTACH convenor Prof. M Panduranga Rao, ZP vice chairman G Ramulu, corporator V Srinivas, RDO Venka Reddy, DPRO Y Venkateshwarlu, Cycle Walkers Association members, among others were present.
