Cyclone Amphan: IMD issues heatwave warning to Telangana for 3 days
Telangana: In the view of the Cyclone Amphan making landfall in the Bengal's east coast, the Indian Meteorological Department on Wednesday issued a three-day heatwave warning for Telangana. The change to wind from easterly to north-westerly direction due to the Amphan, isolated areas of Telangana will witness heatwave conditions from May 22 and May 24, the IMD said.
It has been the coolest summer since 2010 due to the pre-monsoon showers which triggered following the flow of humid easterly winds from the Bay of Bengal, said Mahesh Palawat, vice president at Skymet.
And now, the winds are being replaced by dry and hot North-easterly winds that will increase the temperature in the state, he added.
IMD director K Naga Ratna also said that the state has witnessed more showers this summer which resulted in the temperatures hovering between around normal or one or two degree Celsius above. The heatwave is considered when the temperature is recorded four or five degree Celsius above the normal range.
"Only a few parts of Telangana have seen the temperature around 44 and 45 degree Celsius this summer," she said.
