Daily water as Ugadi gift for Greater Warangal residents
Hyderabad: Municipal Administration Minister KT Rama Rao announced that the people of Greater Warangal Municipal Corporation (GWMC) would get water on a daily basis from Ugadi festival.
The Minister, who conducted a meeting with the Ministers and public representatives of Warangal in Hyderabad on Monday, said that providing drinking water on a daily basis would be taken up on an experimental basis. The Minister reviewed the progress of developmental works in the Corporation limits with the heads of various departments. He directed the officials to fix targets to provide drinking water to people on a daily basis.
"Get ready with the entire infrastructure needed for providing drinking water on a daily basis from Ugadi. The government has already taken up many steps to improve the water supply in Warangal city. Basic facilities are being provided for supplying water through the Mission Bhagiratha-. Earlier there was only 30 MLD of water supply and now there is 168 MLD," said the Minister.
The Minister further said that while there were pipelines in the stretch of 1,400 km earlier, now another 500 km pipeline was laid. He said that under Mission Bhagiratha, Rs 1,000 crore was being provided to take up various programmes. The works are likely to get completed by next Ugadi.
Rama Rao said that for the appointment of 200 personnel to strengthen the supply of drinking water in the city, the government would take the help of National Academy of Construction in Hyderabad. He asked the municipal administration engineering ENC to supervise the works by physically being in the city every week. There are 1.70 lakh house connections in Warangal and connections to remaining houses would also be given as soon as possible. He asked the officials to make people aware about the connection charges of Re 1 and also advised the public representatives to take the responsibility.
The Minister also reviewed the 3,700 double bedroom houses being constructed in the corporation. The officials informed that already about 800 houses were completed and the remaining were in the final stages. The Minister said that very soon the completed houses would be given to the beneficiaries. Rama Rao asked the officials to continue the programmes taken up in the Pattana Pragathi like Vaikunta Dhamam, Urban Parks and Sports Complex in the Corporation limits. He said that the government was providing Rs 7.33 crore every month and till now Rs 81 crore were given to the corporation.
He also reviewed the Smart City works and also the conservation of historical sites, sanitation and strengthening road networks. The Minister would soon conduct another meeting in the Municipal Corporation office in Warangal.
Minister Satyavathi Rathod said that the newly-formed Mahabubabad district has more population of tribals and they were without livelihood. She wanted the Municipal Minister to set up industrial parks, textile parks, food processing units for providing employment to them. She said that they have identified about 800 acres of land in the district to set up the units.
