Narsampet (Warangal Rural): Against the odds, the Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) clinched the Narsampet Mandal Praja Parishad (MPP), but not before a high drama that witnessed defection of three members of mandal parishad territorial constituency (MPTC) belonging to the Congress to the ruling party.

Adding more spice to it, there was a kidnap drama which finally ended up in fisticuffs with a Congress worker attacking her party MPTC members who defected to the TRS with a slipper.

It may be noted here that of the 11 MPTC seats in the Narsampet MPP, while the Congress had won six, the TRS managed to win five. With just one seat separating the balance, the Congress tried hard to hold its members intact to win the MPP president post but in the end it was TRS that emerged victorious by allegedly enticing three MPTCs to their camp.

It all started with two Congress MPTC members - Azmeera Mounika of Bandipeta and Veeranna of Rajupeta – joining the TRS in the presence of Narsampet MLA Peddi Sudarshan Reddy on Friday morning. Soon after this, the news of kidnap broke out with Ullela Guthaiah lodging a complaint with the police that his wife and Laknepalli MPTC-elect Ullela Rajitha were kidnapped by the TRS workers.

While the search is on for the missing MPTC ahead of MPP president election, Rajitha suddenly emerged before the police and told them she was not kidnapped. Later, her husband withdrew the case.

At this juncture, there was an altercation between the TRS and Congress workers, and before it turned violent the police pacified both the groups. However, an angry Congress worker attacked the TRS partymen and MPTCs who defected. In the end, Rajitha also extended her support to the TRS. Eventually, the TRS candidate Mothu Kalamma has been elected as the MPP president with eight MPTCs voting in her favour.
