Disha Case: Petition filed in Supreme court over Chatanpally encounter

Hyderabad: A petition has been filed in the Supreme court over Disha's case accused encounter at Chatanpally in Shadnagar, which happened on Friday (December 6).

Two advocates GS Mani and Pradeep Kumar have approached the Supreme court stating that the Telangana police have not followed the guidelines of the Supreme court over encounters and demanded immediate probe on the incident.

Through the petition, they ask to register FIR against the police who were involved in the encounter. They have brought to the court notice that during the encounter, the police have ignored the Apex court guidelines which were issued in 2014.

Over receiving the complaint from ACP V Surender, who is the investigation officer in Disha's rape and murder case, the Shadnagar police have registered a case on Chatanpally encounter.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu and sets up panel to probe encounter. On the other side, the family members of the accused hold the protest on the encounter.

Earlier, the Supreme court had to say on the subject of encounter in the 2014 case of People's Union of Civil Liberties (PUCL) Vs State of Maharastra. In the detailed order passed on September 23, 2014, the Bench of then Chief Justice RM Lodha and Justice RF Nariman highlighted that the right to life under Article 21 is available to every person and even the State has no authority to violate that right and issued 16 guidelines.
