Doctor saves baby weighing 500 gms in Mancherial
Mancherial: A private hospital in Mancherial town has created a record in neonatal care by saving the life of a premature baby born with extremely low birth weight of 500 grams through a rare treatment.
Going into details, pregnant Rajitha, wife of Manohar, resident of Gadderagadi, Mancherial city, delivered a baby girl in sixth month only.
The premature baby was weighing 500 grams and her lungs and other organs were not developed fully. As her health condition was critical, parents brought her to Mahalakshmi Children's Hospital in Mancherial city. Though the doctors suggested the parents to take the infant to Hyderabad, as treatment to such infants is available in such cities only.
But the baby's father Manohar met Dr Kumar Varma and requested to provide treatment in Mancherial only, to which the doctor agreed.
Dr Kumar Varma took the case as a challenge and provided treatment to the premature baby with rare medicines, special medical treatment and by keeping the baby in NICU for two and half months. The doctors solved retinal problem with the suggestions of LV Prasad Hospital and Star Hospital in Karimnagar. Now the baby is healthy with 1.3 kg weight and was discharged.
Dr Kumar Varma of Mahalakshmi Hospitals, speaking to the media here on Sunday, said the extreme low-weight baby survived because of their special care and treatment
provided over a period of 75 days. He expressed happy for saving the baby as this type of treatments are rare and available in
corporate hospitals only, that too at a cost of lakhs of rupees. Not within the financial reach of common people, he added.
Dr Kumar Varma said he is also happy as he can save the daughter of Manohar and Rajitha, who had three miscarriages during their 20-year marriage. "Rajitha became pregnant for the fourth time through IVF after spending huge amount of money and we succeeded in saving the child," he added.
Manohar and Rajitha thanked Dr Kumar Varma for saving their daughter.
