Doctors stress need for organ donation in Nalgonda
Nalgonda: As part of nation-wide Organ Donation Campaign week from August 6 to 13, the Neelagiri branch of Indian Medical Association and Women Doctors' Wing organised an organ donation camp with the coordination of Jeevandan in Nalgonda on Tuesday.
As part of the programme, a rally was conducted by the IMA members in which NCC cadets of Government Boys Junior College, members of Lions Club and Walkers Club participated. The rally was flagged off by ASP Padmanabha Reddy at the Clock Tower that ended at NG College.
Addressing the gathering, the ASP said organ donation was a boon to many suffering from critical ailments. He lauded the efforts of IMA and Jeevandan of the State government for creating awareness among the people about the need for organ donation.
District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kondal Rao, IMA Neelagiri president Dr Pulla Rao, Chairperson of Women Doctors' Wing of IMA Telangana State Dr Vasantha Kumari and IMA State Council member Dr JP Reddy addressed the gathering and stressed on the importance of organ donation.
Meanwhile, a similar programme was also conducted at the NG College where District Collector Dr Gaurav Uppal took part as chief guest.
Addressing the students, the Collector appealed them to come forward for organ donation and advised them to take preventive measures for diseases and have a balanced diet and lead a stress-free life.
Jeevandan In-charge Dr Swarna Latha explained in detail the importance of organ donation and the meaning of brain dead. She appealed to all to come forward voluntarily and give consent for organ donation by filling the given forms.
The Collector later felicitated the members of families who consented to donate organs of their family members. Dr Rajeshwari, Dr Murthy, Dr Kiran and others participated in the programme.
