Don't pay bribes, Nizamabad Collector M Rammohan Rao urges people

Nizamabad: District Collector M Rammohan Rao told the people not to pay money to get their works done to stop corruption. He was the chief guest at the concluding day of weeklong programme of International Anti-Corruption Day at Rajiv Gandhi Auditorium here on Monday. The weeklong programmes were conducted from December 3 to 9.

The Collector felt awareness among the public had reduced corruption to some extend and hoped that this will continue to totally eradicate corruption in the society. This is possible only with public awareness, he added. He warned the authorities not to engage in corruption as they have discretionary powers. The Collector said that the discretionary powers of the officials have been reduced drastically after the introduction of online services with technological advancement. Corruption is prevalent in government offices as the people has to meet the officials for certificates from birth to death, he observed.

Rao urged people to adhere to the task of getting their works done in accordance with the rules and regulations and without giving any bribes. He also advised the public to comply with the rules and regulations in order to get the work done according to their qualifications.

The Collector said that it is possible to curb corruption if the people and the officials pledge not to take bribe. He urged people to call toll free number 1064 to complain about corruption. He called on everyone to help in stopping corruption.

On this occasion, the complainants, who fought against corruption, were rewarded. Prizes were awarded to those, who won in essay competition, held during the weeklong programme.

ACB Inspectors Shankar Reddy and Shiv Kumar, students and others participated in the programme.
