Drugs a grave threat to youth: Bro Shafi
Hyderabad: On behalf of 'Mission Nenu Saitham Samajam Kosam,' International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, was observed on Wednesday where awareness was created amongst the participants.
Expressing his concern about the increased number of drug abuse cases in the country, Brother Shafi, known as master motivator during a programme held in Basheerbagh press club called upon participants and media persons to be vary of this societal evil which has already made its slaves huge population across the world and has become major cause of deaths amongst different sections of the society.
He said that those who become slaves of the substance abuse would indulge in different types of crimes, risking not only their lives but also of others.
Speaking to media persons, Shafi said that the mission's objective was to generate awareness amongst the youth about ill effects of the drug abuse and to protect them from falling prey to this evil, which has already taken huge toll in the human population.
He described the drug abuse as the biggest challenge being faced by the humanity across the globe. He pointed out that in USA which is considered as the superpower, for each 11 minutes one death is reported because of this societal evil.
He also noted that amongst the South Asian nations, India topped the list of countries which has 60 per cent population in their youth. "Till now 50 lakhs of youth have already fell prey to the drug abuse in the country.
Despite of the prohibition of drugs and stricter norms in the country, huge cache of narcotic substances is being seized each year. During 2016, 300 tonnes and in 2017, 353 tonnes of drugs were seized by the authorities," he said.
