EC gears up for ZPs, MPPs elections
Hyderabad: The State Election Commission (SEC) is getting ready for the conduct of the Zilla Parishads and Mandal Praja Parishads elections from third week of this month and the schedule for which would be announced after April 18.
The State government has referred the proposal to hold elections to the PR bodies recently. It suggested that it would be better to hold elections from April 22 to May 14.
The SEC would hold a meeting with the Collectors and superintends on April 18 to examine the preparedness of the district official machineries. A higher official of the SEC said that the nitty-gritty of the polls would be discussed in the meeting.
The SEC would hold election to 535 Zilla Parishad Territorial Constituencies (ZPTCs) and 5,857 Mandal Parishad Territorial Constituencies (MPTCs). The MPTCs would elect 535 MPP chairpersons and the ZPTC would elect 32 chairpersons of the ZPs.
The SEC has completed the reservation process for the Zilla Parishads and the Mandal Praja Parishads, both for the MPTC and ZPTCs. It has also completed reservations for the ZP chairperson and the MPP chairpersons.
According to the reservations being finalised, the chairperson post of ZPP of Bhadradri has been reserved to ST, Mahabubabad to ST (women), Adilabad to ST, Asifabad to ST (women), Mancherial to SC (women), Warangal Urban to SC (women), Karimanagar to SC (women), Nagarkurnool to SC, Bhuapalapalli to SC (women), Peddpalli to BC, Narayanapet to BC, Jagtial to BC, Gadwal to BC (women), Medak to BC (women), Kama Reddy to BC (women), Siddipet, Sanga Reddy, Siricilla, Nirmal, Warangal Rural, Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, and Suryapet to women (unreserved).
