Efforts on turn Telangana as Seed Bowl of India: Niranjan Reddy
Hyderabad: Agriculture Minister S. Niranjan Reddy said that the farmers of Telangana were being motivated for seed cultivation.
In his answer to a question raised by MLAs D. Manohar Reddy and others during Question Hour in Legislative Assembly on Thursday, the Agriculture Minister said that the farmers were being motivated under Seed Village programme by providing seed subsidy and training. The government is also providing seed production subsidy and buy back of such seeds. He said quality foundation seed of new varieties were also being supplied. Seed production chain is maintained by the government with well established infrastructure facilities. He said these measures were aimed at making Telangana a Seed Bowl of India.
The Minister informed that in Telangana State, nearly 51,40,458 quintals of various classes of seeds have been produced till date, since 2014-15 onwards. He said that State Government was providing Rs.140 Crores worth of quality seeds every year under subsidy to farmers.
