Electricity is friend in need and harbinger of progress: SCR GM
Hyderabad: South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Gajanan Mallaya said that the electricity was a friend in need and front runner in the progress of civilization. Therefore, he advised everyone to conserve the energy and adhere to safety aspects.
Mallaya was addressing a seminar as part of Electrical Safety Week on Wednesday at Rail Nilayam Auditorium, Secunderabad. The Electrical Department of SCR is conducting various awareness programs to highlight importance of Electrical Safety and Prevention of fire as part of Electrical Safety week being observed from 6th to 13th May in all its Divisions/Workshops etc.,
Addressing the large gathering of officials and staff, the General Manager stated that proper use of electricity in day to day life at work places and residentials is essential. He stressed upon taking necessary maintenance precautions during its usage. Proper supervision is must to ensure safety and quality work during execution of electrical projects. Proper earthing procedures to be followed for all electrical equipment, he added. He advised officials to conduct more safety seminars periodically to improve safety awareness. He advised officials to thoroughly investigate and find out the root cause of electrical accidents, fire mishaps, incidents of electrical shock and take preventive action for ensuring safety.
Additional General Manager John Thomas said that electrical safety should be priority area. Due importance should be accorded for maintenance works especially for Over Head Equipment (ORE) and importance and necessity of earthing. A.A. Padkhe, Principal Chief Electrical Engineer, SCR welcomed the gathering and highlighted on various awareness programs taken up to sensitize all for taking up electrical safety. Special drives are being conducted continuously at all levels to create awareness, he added.
Presentations on General Electrical Safety procedures to be adopted was presented by R.K.Sharma, Chief Electrical General Engineer, SCR and Electrical Fires and prevention was presented by Gopinath Mallya, Chief Electrical Loco Engineer, SCR who stressed upon good maintenance practices. Presentations on several initiatives taken up for conservation of electric energy were made. An exhibition showcasing various energy efficient fittings and technologies had been put up by the Divisions of South Central Railway along with participants from Industry.
