Erring engg colleges face JNTUH action

Hyderabad: JNTUH will take strict action against the affiliated engineering colleges for retaining the original certificates of their faculty members.

According to official sources, numerous complaints were received from the facultyagainst the colleges retaining their original certificates contrary to the existing rules set by AICTE.

Speaking to The Hans India, a senior official said, "when inquired, the colleges responded orally that several faculty members have made it a habit to leave their jobs in the middle of the academic session causing students to lose classes until some other replacement is made."

It was to prevent such incidents that the colleges have been engaged in retaining the original certificates of the faculty members, they said.

"Generally the colleges are keeping a provision for one month to three months notice period while issuing the appointment letters. However, in some subjects, they are finding it difficult to find a replacement in the middle of the academic session.

This is leading to the colleges resorting to retain the original certificate even after completion of the notice periods," the official said.

However, as the issue turned into a major headache, the AICTE had made it clear to the colleges to strictly adhere to the norms.

Following this, any engineering college retaining the original certificates of the faculty members resigned after the completion of the notice period of one month will have to face de-recognition.

It was against this backdrop that the JNTU-H has decided to ensure strict compliance to the affiliation rules, besides, the AICTE's new direction on the retention of original certificates are followed in toto from the ensuing academic year, the sources said.
