Ramagundam: May Day is celebrated on May 1 across the world to commemorate hundreds of workers, who died while fighting for eight-hour workday and for their rights on May 1, 1886 at Chicago's Haymarket Monument, said Ramagundam MLA, Korukanti Chander.

He hoisted the May Day flag in front of Global Call Washer Gate in Ramagundam on Wednesday. Later addressing the gathering, the MLA said many workers sacrificed their lives for their rights fighting against the managements.

Ramagundam constituency is full of coal mine workers and the government, which is determined for the welfare of workers, had increased the workers' salaries working in NTPC and ready to allot hereditary jobs to workers.

One ESI hospital is going to start for the sake of workers in Malkapur. The MLA asked the workers to bring to his notice whatever problems they are facing and assured of solving them.

Meanwhile, in Peddapalli NTPC the May Day was celebrated on a grand note. CPI0ML district joint secretary (New Democracy) K Rajanna hoisted the party flag at the IFTU office.

A rally was held from Medipalli NTPC centre to Labour gate in which hundreds of women workers, contract workers and others took part.

Speaking on the occasion, IFTU leader Chiluku Shankar said May first is purely a festival for all the workers present across the globe. This day will remember us about workers' rights and will give inspiration to be united to get them.

IFTU leaders Satyanarayana Reddy, Buchhanna, Linganna, Raja Mallu, Sudhakar, Ahmed Pasha, Ravi, Raimallamma, Shankaramma, Prameela and lakshmi were present along with others.
