Nizamabad: R&B Minister Vemula Prashanth Reddy asked the authorities to work in coordination with the farmers through grain purchasing centres that were set up to provide best price to their crops, during a review meeting at Zilla Parishad office in Nizamabad on Monday.

The Minister had instructed the officials of civil supplies, revenue and agriculture departments to open purchasing centres in agricultural markets, since the farmers had produced seven lakh metric tonnes yield during this kharif due to good rainfall. Last year, 4.90 lakh metric tonnes were purchased.

He told them to complete all the preparations for purchasing the produce as the estimated seven lakh metric tonnes of grains will not come at a single time. Be prepared to purchase grains that come to the purchase centres every day in any area, he said.

Minister Reddy said that it was estimated that the district needs 1.80 crore gunny bags, of this, 1.12 crore bags are ready. He directed the officials to send proposals to buy more gunny bags. Prashant had urged the officials to work actively without causing problems to the farmers.

District Collector M Rammohan Rao said micro-planning should be done in advance on grain yield. Village and mandal level officers should coordinate in setting up gunny bags in the vehicles. Farmers were also told to act responsibly without causing any trouble.
