EWS quota in MBBS to be filled during third phase counselling
Hyderabad: Kaloji Health University is likely to fill MBBS seats under EWS (Economically Weaker Sections) quota in third phase of counselling.
Counselling for convener quota seats and management quota seats is in the process, but the varsity did not take a decision on filling EWS seats as it is still awaiting clarity from the MCI in this regard.
MCI is yet to allot additional seats to private medical colleges to help them implement the EWS quota in private medical colleges.
As of now, MCI has approved 190 additional seats in five government medical colleges to implement the new reservation quota.
Of this EWS seats would be 90 plus. This number will increase in case private medical colleges are also sanctioned additional seats. Private medical college managements stated that a final decision is likely to be made by end of this month.
Government officials are expecting an official word from the MCI on this issue. However, indications are that MCI is all but likely to confine EWS quota this year only to government medical colleges all over the country dropping private medical colleges from the list, at least for this year.
It will be difficult for most of the private colleges to fulfil staff and facilities requirements for the additional seats if allotted for implementing the EWS quota. Hence, they may be included in the list from the next academic year.
Whatever might be the MCI decision, it will be implemented for all private medical colleges in the country. It may be recalled that ten private colleges from Telangana sent proposals for additional seats towards end of last month for implementing EWS quota.
