Farmer attempts suicide as land details go missing from revenue records in Nagarkurnool

Nagarkurnool: An aggrieved farmer from Nadimpally village of Achampet mandal in Nagarkurnool district doused with kerosene had attempted to commit suicide in front of the Revenue Division Office (RDO) in the presence of Joint Collector on Monday over missing of his land details from the revenue records.

According to sources, Parvatalu (35), a farmer from Nadimpally village had approached the MRO office and RDO office many times over the missing of his patta land details from the Records of Revenue (ROR) and had visited the officials requesting them to reinstate his land details in the records and issue a new passbook.

However, his request fell on deaf ears and forced him to make rounds to various offices. In spite of his complaints in the Tahsildar, Revenue and District Collectorate officers there was no response from the authorities. "I have been roaming around the offices for the last six months to rectify the error and correct the passbook and restore my land, but every time I approach them, they ask me to come some other day and nothing is being done to restore my land. I have no other option but to die, because of the harassment of the officials," said Parvatalu.

Aggrieved over the attitude of the district authorities Parvatalu brought with him a bottle of kerosene and doused himself at the RDO office in front of Joint Collector and attempted to commit suicide. The alert staff and the other persons immediately stopped the person and foiled his suicide bid.

Responding to this, the Joint Collector said that the authorities were looking into the complaint and it was in the process. "It is unfortunate that the farmer had lost his cool and tried to take the extreme step. We are working on it and trying to rectify the corrections in the land records. It will take some time and the farmers must be patient and should not take any hasty decision," said P Srinivas Reddy Joint collector, Nagarkurnool.
