Farmers burn 12,000 quintals of paddy in Karimnagar

Karimnagar: The farmers of Narsingapur village staged a dharna on the road and burnt the produce in protest against the rice millers, who are not purchasing the food grains, in Veenavanka mandal of Karimnagar district on Wednesday.

It is to be noted that the officials along with local public representatives opened purchasing centre in collaboration with Primary Agriculture Cooperative Society (PACS) here at the mandal headquarter to bail out the farmers, who faced loss due to sudden and unexpected rains that occurred recently in the mandal.

The farmers criticised that the rice millers of Huzurabad Vasavi Industries and Jammikunta Annapurna rice mill are purchasing food grains at Rs 5,000 per quintal and sometimes rejecting the produce quoting heavy moisture content. They lamented that they had cultivated amidst several problems and brought the yield to the purchasing centres.

In protest against the rice millers, the farmers staged a dharna on the road demanding the rice millers to purchase the food grains and do justice to them. When the rice millers didn't pay attention to their request, the farmers burnt about 12,000 quintals of paddy on the road.

Around 100 farmers, who staged dharna and burnt their produce, demanded the government to purchase the food grains without keeping any restrictions and do justice to them.
