Farmers protest at Collectorate seeking action against paddy trader in Nalgonda
Nalgonda: The farmers of Peddavura, Nayanivani Kunta, Battugudem, Tungaturthy and Garnekunta villages who were cheated by one private trader, M Kiran, staged a protest before the Collectorate in Nalgonda on Monday demanding justice.
As many as 60 farmers participated in the dharna and demanded stringent action against a private trader, M Kiran, who bought their paddy but did not pay the money.
The victim farmers, speaking to the media, informed that Kiran, the owner of the Sri Balaji fertilisers at Peddavura, purchased paddy from many farmers who were his customers but did not pay the money.
They alleged that Kiran and his family members had gone underground by locking the house and also kept their mobile phones switched off. The farmers informed that they were forced to sell the paddy to private trader due to over delay in paddy purchase at IKP centre.
Soon after confirmation that the trader went underground, the farmers lodged a complaint against Kiran on May 16, and the police took him into custody on May 18.
However, Kiran, in the presence of police officials, assured the victim farmers of paying the dues within 15 days when the farmers approached the CI and SI of Peddavura a couple of days ago.
Meanwhile, farmers on Monday urged the District Collector to intervene into the matter and address their issue.
