Wanaparthy: Even though there is huge flow of flood waters from Jurala project downstream into the Krishna River, the irrigation authorities have failed to release water to the canals that supply irrigation waters to fields coming under the Jurala project ayacut. Incensed over this, the farmers from various villages of Chinnambavi mandal in Wanaparthy district approached the Jurala Project Irrigation Office on Friday and staged a protest against the officials for failing to release the canal water to the last ayacut of Jurala project.

"Chinnambavi mandal constitutes the last ayacut of the Jurala project. However, even though lakhs of cusecs of water is going down waste into the Krishna River, the project officials have failed to release adequate water into the Jurala ayacut canal to reach the last mile. We were eagerly waiting for the irrigation water, but so far, we have not even got a drop of water through the canal. We are demanding the irrigation officials to immediately release water to the canals so that it will reach the last ayacut farmers," said the agitating farmers.

However, Sridhar, Executive Engineer of Jurala project observed that water was already released into the main canals and it would take some more time to reach the sub-canals and for the water to reach the last mile, it might take some more time.

He informed the farmers that there was no need to worry as they have adequate water and would release it to all farmers under the Jurala project.
