Farming most noble profession: TS Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan
Hyderabad: Telangana Governor Dr Tamilisai Soundararajan said farming is the first and most noble profession in the world and asked students to take pride in pursuing agriculture courses.
Interacting with students of Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agricultural University (PJTSAU), during her visit as the Chancellor here on Thursday, the Governor said farmers and agriculture have the first place in the world.
Every agriculture graduate should be proud of his degree. "They are not only pursuing a degree but are also feeders of the people. You must be proud of studying in the worldwide renowned university," she added.
Dr Tamilisai advised the students to take challenges whenever they get opportunities so that they can showcase their abilities.
After offering floral tributes to Prof Jayashankar, she visited therice section in the Agriculture Research Institute and interacted with the scientists.
The Governor observed that the mechanised paddy transplantation, growing mat nursery, the direct seedling method in paddy, drum seeder method and also visited the paddy poly house in the rice section research farm.
PJTSAU Vice-Chancellor Dr V Praveen Rao explained to the visiting dignitary about the new rice varieties developed by the university and its popularity among the farmers in Telangana and the neighbouring States.
Later she visited the University Knowledge Management Center (KMC- university central library), Walking Tunnels at Horticulture Garden, millet processing and Incubation centre, natural dyes processing unit on the campus.
She also visited the university auditorium where an exhibition showcased various research schemes and innovative programmes of the university.
The vice-chancellor briefed the Governor about the activities of the university through a video presentation and explained how the varsity is striving hard to serve the farmers to make agriculture a profitable venture.
He further added the university is working with several national and international institutions and universities by collaborating to ensure modern technologies to the students and farmers.
Later, the Governor released booklets and CDs on a package of practices in redgram, drip irrigation andsprinkler.
Dr S Sudheer Kumar, Registrar, Members of the Board of Management Committee of PJTSAU, several university officers, students participated in the Chancellor's visit to the university.
