Fire engulfs Srisailam power station in Telangana, 9 trapped
As many as nine persons trapped in the fire that engulfed TS Genco hydel power station located at Domalapenta of Amrabad mandal in Nagarkurnool district on Friday morning. According to the early reports coming in, short circuit led to the fire. The fire is said to have erupted from the left bank powerhouse late on Thursday night.
Around 17 persons were present at the spot when the fire engulfed out of which six managed to escape through a tunnel and are admitted to a hospital.
Meanwhile, the persons who are trapped in the fire include six TS Genco employees and three employees of a private company. Those who trapped inside the hydel power plant were identified as DE Srinivas, AE Sundaar, Mohan Kumar, Sushma, Fathima, Rambabu, Venkat Rao and two others from Amaron company.
Firefighters from Atmakur fire station have rushed to the spot to douse the fire. Rescue operations are underway to save the trapped employees. The authorities alerted the rescue personnel from the Singareni collieries.
Soon after the fire engulfed the station, the officials suspended power generation operations at the power station.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has expressed shock over the accident that took place at Srisailam Power Generation Plant. The CM is eliciting information on the accident on a regular basis.
The CM wanted all those who were trapped in the Plant should come out safely. KCR spoke to Minister Jagdeesh Reddy and Transco, Genco CMD D Prabhakar Rao who are at the Plant site and reviewed the relief measures taking place there.
