Floods wreak havoc in Mahbubnagar districts

Mahbubnagar: People living the low-lying areas three districts of Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Gadwal have borne the brunt of the floods in the river Krishna.

The river is flowing abover the danger mark and the flood waters have submerged hundreds of villages in its course and displaced a large number of people and damaged crops. This has happened though the three districts received deficient rainfall.

In fact, this is the repetition of what had happened along the Krishna River banks a decade ago during 2009 floods. Swollen Tungabhadra and Krishna submerged low-lying areas in Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Kurnoool districts.

On Monday with more than 11.40 lakh cusecs of flood water flowing down from Narayanpur and Alamatti dams into Krishna river, the Jurala project is releasing more than 7.50 lakh cusecs of water by opening 68 gates.

After getting alerts from the irrigation and project officials, the district administrations in all the three districts have taken all precautionary measures to evacuate people, if need arises.

The villagers of Birelly in Gadwal mandal are the worst hit. "We have lost everything in the floods, our houses have been damaged. People have lost their cattel too," said a victim.

The people, however, expressed appreciation of the officials for taking all measures to ensure the safety of people.

The villagers in Nagarkurnool district have also been badly affected as the backwaters damaged crops. The villagers of Malleshwaram, Jataprolu, Manchalakatta, Yaparla, Pebbair, Bekkamm Paddamarur, Tarur, Amaragiri, Somashila, Basavapuram, Gudem and others have lost all their crops due to overflowing Krishna River.

All these villages have been submerged causing huge damage to crops and houses.

The NDRF personnel are working overtime to evacuate the flood affected people from Hindupur, Murahadoddi, Mudumala, pasupula, Nandimalla and other villages in Narayanpet district.

In Dharur mandal the villages of Nettampadu, Khamampadu, Garlapadu and others have been impacted as the corps in these areas has been inundated causing a huge loss.
