Former cop sentenced for three years rigorous imprisonment

Hyderabad: The II MM court at LB Nagar, on Friday convicted the former cop, R Amar Singh (56), in all 14 house burglaries under LB Nagar police station limits and sentenced him to undergo three years' rigorous imprisonment and imposed fine of Rs 10,000 in each case.

According to police, the accused Amar Singh hailed from Nagarkurnool district and in 1990 he was selected as police constable in APSP and worked in Yousufguda for about 10 years. After that, as his wife was elected as Sarpanch of their village, he shifted to his home town and started doing agriculture.

In due course, he was addicted to lavish life and alcohol. But his earnings could not suffice the expenses of his opulent life. As such, he started committing house burglaries since 2010 to make easy money in short period to continue his lavish lifestyle.

Since 2010 so far, he committed as many as 42 night house burglaries in the limits of various police stations of Rachakonda, Hyderabad, Cyberabad Police Commissionerate limits and other parts of the districts of Telangana state.

Even though, he was arrested by police and sent to judicial custody he could not mend his ways and resorted to house burglaries soon after releasing from jail on bail.

LB Nagar Police have arrested accused on January 29 and remanded to judicial custody and lodged in Central Prison, Cherlapally after detaining him under PD Act on March 5.
