Fund boost for Energy sector in Telangana
Hyderabad: The Energy sector has got a substantial allocation of Rs 10,416 crore in the new budget 2020-21 outlay which was presented by Finance Minister T Harish Rao in the Assembly on Sunday.
Government earmarked adequate funds to the energy sector to continue all the farm centric schemes mainly free power supply scheme.
State government was supplying 24-hour free power supply to agriculture and also subsidised power to the domestic sector and some green field industrial projects taken up in the State.
The constant measures taken by the government to strengthen the energy sector had already put Telangana as number one State in the country in per capita electricity consumption which is the main indicator of development.
The per capita income in the T state was 1,896 units while it is 1,181 units in the country. The demand for power also recorded an all time high of 13,168 MW in Telangana in the recent times.
Officials said that Telangana has overcome the power problems after the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and moving towards a power sufficient State in the country and after the completion of the ongoing thermal power stations, the State will be regarded as surplus power State in the country.
