Hyderabad: Gas Authority of India Limited (GAIL) has organised elocution competition in the Osmania University (OU) on Thursday under the "Saksham" programme taken up by the Petroleum Conservation Research Association, Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas.

Month-long programmes are being organised from January 20 to February 16 under the 'Saksham', a corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiative.

On Thursday, the GAIL Zonal Office has conducted the elocution competition for post-graduate students from different departments in OU in which about 30 students participated.

The students under the banner of "Festival of Ideas" have participated in the programme for which Dr Varija was the convener. Arts College Principal Ravindra took initiative in organising the event and Chief General Manager of GAIL Zonal Office Sanjay Shende was chief guest.

Students exhibited their talent both in English and Telugu and the topic for the elocution competition was "Raising energy demand-a boon or bane."

Girls outsmarted the boys in the competitions and three girls stood in the first three positions. Addressing the gathering, Shende said that it is a welcoming gesture that girls have outsmarted the boys in the competition and gave statistics during their presentation.

He emphasised the need for conservation of natural resources and less usage of petroleum products.

"It is also important to implement what you spoke during the elocution competition and the young generation has to focus on energy conservation. You have to acquire knowledge with little support of Wikipedia or Google," he suggested.
