German Professor predicts normal rainfall for Telangana
Hyderabad: A Germany-based institute has predicted normal monsoon for Telangana and it will hit the State between June 16 and 24.
According to Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), Potsdam, Germany leader Prof. Elena Surovy there will be normal monsoon in Telangana and Central India.
Addressing a webinar organised by Professor Jayashankar Telangana State Agriculture University (PJTSAU), she said that the onset of monsoon in Telangana appears around three days early than in the Eastern Ghats. And, the monsoon onset in the State will fall between June 16 and 24.
However, she also predicted that isolated rainfall and dry spells may be expected between the last week of June and July 15. The continuous rainfall is likely between July 15 and October 13, she said.
Contrary to this, the continued rainfall in the Eastern Ghats starts early than in Telangana, and that could be a good indicator for farmers preparing for continued rainfall in Telangana, she added. The PIK Professor predicted that Telangana state will receive rainfall of about 854mm during the ensuing monsoon period.
That apart, the onset of monsoon in Central India is expected to be delayed. There will be a deficit rainfall in Central and East and North East India according to Prof Elina's prediction.
Dr V Praveen Rao, Vice-Chancellor, PJTSAU presided over the webinar. Humboldt, an expert in agriculture, environment and cooperation and Chairman, Indo-German Project on Sustainability had joined the webinar from Germany and introduced Prof Elena. MLA Dr Ramesh Chennamaneni and other university scientists were present.
