Hyderabad: GHMC Mayor Dr. Bonthu Rammohan inaugurated intensive cleanliness drive & IEC Campaign to improve Sanitation in Gaddinnaram Ward here today.

The intention of this intensive cleanliness drive is to keep the particular ward with all facilities like filling of potholes, footpath, street lighting, cleaning nalas, lifting of accumulated garbage, C&D waste, spraying and fogging operations, removing unauthorized flexes, banners, taking up engineering repair works, intensive sweeping etc.

Speaking on the occasion, the Mayor said for one crore population nearly 20,000 sanitation workers were striving very hard day and night to keep the city clean. However, he said some people were throwing garbage at open places instead of handing over it to Swachh Autoworker to avoid payment of Rs. 50 monthly charges. This is evident from observing that garbage is piling at open places and also at dust bin daily. To control this menace GHMC is proposing to keep CC camera at Garbage vulnerable points to levy penalties and punishment.

Further, he appealed the citizens to co-operate with the GHMC in keeping the city clean, and said as we keep our houses and establishments neat and clean it is also our responsibility to keep our surroundings clean. The apartment people and colony people should keep the garbage of all residents at one particular place so that the Swachh Autoworker can lift the garbage from single point instead of collecting it from each household thereby save time and enables to cover more area.

MLA Sudheer Reddy said that due to lack of coordination with the wings, duplication of work is more such as after desilting of nalas, repair of road works and cleaning of drainage the waste material is left unlifted and after some time the same material comes in nalas and drains thereby wasting manpower and money and requested not to repeat such mistakes while executing other works in future.

Special Commissioner for Sanitation Sujathat Gupta while addressing the gathering said GHMC is taking up 360-degree angle work of a particular ward by coordinating with all wings of GHMC like engineering wing, sanitation, electrical, entomology etc.,

Zonal Commissioner Upendra Reddy, Deputy Commissioners Vijay Krishna, Shailaja, B. Krishna Shekar, Maruti Diwakar, H. Krishnaiah and AMOHs of L.B.Nagar division have participated in the programme.
