GHMC to resume Rs 5 meal canteens from today

Hyderabad: Scores of homeless people and destitutes including the abandoned old aged people in twin cities had a difficult time on the first day of the lockdown on Monday.

With the Rs 5 meal-offering Annapurna canteens remaining shut they had to stay hungry in the afternoon. In some places, old-aged men and women were seen sitting on road pavements in the hot afternoon looking weak for obvious reasons.

Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi brought this issue to the notice of MAUD minister K T Rama Rao and Principal Secretary Arvind Kumar in the form of a tweet.

He appealed to them to continue Rs 5 meal service as the poor are hit by the economic downturn.

Immediately responding to the matter, Arvind Kumar stated in a tweet that he spoke to GHMC Commissioner to continue the Annapurna meals service during the lockdown period till March 31.
