Gadwal: The Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) authorities from Hyderabad visited Gadwal district on Monday and inspected the Ginning mills and took stock of the measures being taken by the management to dispose off the effluent emanating from the mills.

Based on a private complaint lodged with the CPCB that the management of ginning mills in Gadwal are releasing the untreated sulphuric acid into the ground and causing pollution to the ground water in the region, the Pollution Control Board authorities visited the Gadwal district and inspected all the ginning mills in the district.

"There were allegations that the ginning mill owners are resorting to violation of pollution control norms and allegedly releasing untreated sulphur acid into the ground. This is a grave violation as it will not only damage the soil but also pollute the ground water. We have secured the soil and water samples from within the premises of ginning mills and from the surrounding areas and sent them for testing. If test are revealed positive stringent action will be taken against the violating mills," said Ramulu, Gadwal Revenue Development Officer who accompanied the authorities of CPCB. The sulphuric acid is used in the ginning mills during the deleting process, however, as there is no proper supervision with regard to proper disposal of harmful chemicals, the ginning mill owners are said to have resorting to violation of pollution control norms and causing harm to both land and water in the region.
