Glittering start for KMC's Diamond Jubilee celebrations

Warangal: It was a moment to be remembered for hundreds of alumni who thronged the Kakatiya Medical College (KMC) on its Diamond Jubilee celebrations on Saturday. Health Minister E Rajender and Panchayat Raj Minister Errabelli Dayakar Rao attended the programme as chief guests.

The Ministers felicitated some of the distinguished personalities - Dr Rehmath Beegum Sailaniyoda, the one and only recipient of Padma Shri award who graduated from the KMC and hails from Lakshadweep islands, Dr H C Tandon, the chairman of KMC construction committee and principal from 1973 to 1978, eminent cardiologists and philanthropist Dr Hanimireddy Lakireddy, Dr G Gopal Reddy, Dr Gorukanti Surender Rao of Yashoda Hospitals, Dr Suresh Reddy and Dr Sujeeth Reddy Punnam.

Addressing the gathering on the occasion, Rajender said that presence of alumni is a source of inspiration to the younger generation. "Many a student who graduated from the KMC has reached pinnacle in their career while extending their services in medical field. It's a huge occasion for them to reunite and share their past and presence," he said.

Referring to the Telangana Government's flagship programmes – Kanti Velugu, KCR Kits, Mission Bhageeratha etc, he said that all of them are aimed at well-being of the people. "Ahead of Telangana formation, some people raised doubts that development would take a backseat in the region, however, we have proved self-sufficiency in almost all fields," Rajender said.

Errabelli called the KMC alumni to show their generosity for the development of the college and MGM hospital that gave them a bright future. "A bank account will be created in the name of Urban District Collector for mass donations," he said. The Minister said that State Government had sanctioned Rs 10 crore for the development of MGM Hospital.

Mayor Gunda Prakash Rao, ZP chairperson M Sudheer Kumar, MPs Banda Prakash, P Dayakar, legislators Nannapuneni Narender, D Vinay Bhaskar, T Rajaiah, Urban District Collector Prashanth Jeevan Patil, KMC principal Dr S Sandhya, MGM superintendent B Srinivas Rao, Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences VC Dr B Karunakar Reddy and Alumni convener Dr P Kali Prasad Rao were among others present.

More than 1,000 alumni participated on the first day of two-day Diamond Jubilee, according to KMC authorities.
