Good news! Thalassemia comes under Aarogyasri scheme coverage
Warangal: Finally, good news for the patients who have been suffering from Thalassemia, a life-threatening disease, with the State government bringing them under the coverage of the Aarogyasri Healthcare Trust.
The Thalassemia patients who are undergoing chelation therapy in the facility of the Indian Red Cross Society (IRCS) can now avail the Aarogyasri benefits.
Warangal is the third district in the State to get such a facility after Hyderabad and Mancherial. It may be noted here that Thalassemia is an inherited blood disorder characterised by abnormal formation of haemoglobin leading to destruction of red blood cells. Children with Thalassemia require treatment and blood transfusions throughout their lives.
The Warangal chapter of IRCS which has been providing blood transfusion for the Thalassemia patients for the last few years also has syringe transfusion pump equipment, used in iron chelation therapy (ICT).
Against this backdrop, Warangal Urban District Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu, who is also the president of the Warangal chapter of the IRCS, formally launched the services on Monday.
