Government failed in controlling onion price: CPI leaders in Karimnagar
Karimnagar: The common people are unable to buy onions with its prices touching the sky for the past few days in Karimnagar district, alleged Communist Party of India (CPI) leaders. They burnt an effigy of the government in protest against the steep hike in onion prices at Kamaan Chowrastha here on Monday. Speaking on the occasion, CPI district secretary P Kedari said onion is a daily commodity and a common item used by all people.
But due to the high prices, i.e., Rs 200 per kg, the common people couldn't afford to buy them and cutting its consumption.
He alleged a few onion merchants and traders are intentionally storing onions without selling them to encourage black marketing and indirectly responsible for the steep hike in onion price. Some others are selling onions for high prices and looting the innocent people.
Kedari said that today the onion rate more than that of mutton and chicken. Both the Central and State governments are not in a mood to stop the price hike and not taking any steps to bring the rates. What is the use of a government if it couldn't serve the people? he questioned.
The CPI leader demanded the government to import onions from other States, where production is more, and to bring down the prices, so that common people can purchase them.
CPI leaders B Ashok, Katika Reddy, Buchhanna Yadav, G Vasudev, B Tirupathi, Govindu, Ravi, K Rama Rao, K Manikanta, B Ugendar, B Sada Shiva, K Santosh Chary, P Sammaiah, N Srinivas and M Ramesh were present along with others.
