Government neglect welfare sector: SFI
Karimnagar: The representatives of the Student Federation of India (SFI) on Monday demanded the government to solve the issues pertaining to welfare hostels in the district.
They staged dharna in front of the Scheduled Caste and Backward Caste Welfare Department office in Karimnagar and tried to lay siege of it.
Speaking on the occasion, SFI district secretary Shanigarapu Rajinikanth alleged that instead of developing the welfare sector, the government is neglecting it. Many welfare hostels do not have permanent buildings. Most of them are run in the rented buildings with no proper facilities.
The government did not allot beds, blankets, plates and mosquito nets till date in these welfare hostels. Many students are falling sick due to spread of seasonal diseases. However, officials did not allot an MBBS doctor to conduct regular health check-up of students staying in the hostels, he added.
Even though there is a Welfare Minister in the district, the officials are not in a mood to listen the problems of students. Moreover, they behave rudely with the students when the students are taking the issues to the notice of the officials, he pointed out.
He demanded the government to strengthen the welfare hostels by allotting permanent buildings along with providing all the facilities and arrange an MBBS doctor. With the increasing mess charges, the government should provide Rs 1,000 as pocket money to the students staying in welfare hostels. Otherwise, they would intensify the agitation to teach the government a fitting lesson, he warned.
SFI representatives Rakesh, Srikanth, Anusha, Aravind, Naveen, Jyothi, Chandini, Suresh, Puja, Jeevan, Ajay, Bablu, Uday, Sai, Sagar and Santosh were present on the occasion.
