Governments need to address orphans problems in Warangal

Warangal: Childcare institutions play a vital role in child development, Child Welfare Committee (CWC) chairperson Mandala Parashuramulu said.

Addressing as the chief guest at a programme 'The role of childcare institutions in child services' organised at the Bala Raksha Bhavan here on Friday, he emphasised the need for a cohesive effort by the line departments that looking after childcare.

"There are 23 childcare centres functioning in Warangal Urban district with the help of philanthropists. These centres have been looking after the welfare of the orphans and differently-abled. Despite this, a lot to be done for the welfare of these children," Parashuramulu said.

He said that Central and State governments need to focus on childcare and come up with a strategy to address the problems of orphans and differently-abled. Special emphasis on health and education is the need of the hour, he added.

Referring to the female infanticide and girl child selling, he told the line departments to focus on the malady besides informing the authorities if they come across any such cases.

The CWC chairman said that those institutions running childcare units need to follow the norms laid down by the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015.

District Child Protection Officer P Santhosh Kumar, Childline Coordinator Ragi Krishnamurthy, Protection Officer S Praveen Kumar, CWC member K Manjula, LCPO A Sathish, ACDPO A Anitha, Sishu Gruha Manager D Nagesh, Social Worker M Srinivasulu, Chaitanya, Counsellor Madhavi, S Kumar, Ramesh and Goda Devi were among others present.
