Govt to set up model market in Wanaparthy

Wanaparthy: With an aim to improve the marketing conditions in Wanaparthy district, the State government has decided to set up a modern model market with a cost of Rs 100 crore.

As part of this, the District administration and Agriculture Minister Singireddy Niranjan Reddy took up various steps and intensified measures to set up a model market in Wanaparthy district.

The district administration also prepared a Detailed Project Report (DPR) pertaining to the construction of the model market by the concerned officials. The market will come up on the outskirts of Chityala village. It is being stated that the report pertaining to the construction of the market has been sent for the approval of Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao.

The officials of the marketing department of the district have talked about the funds and permissions required for the construction of the market in their report. The officials have also inspected the land for a couple of times so far. The higher ups of the department have also held discussions on the issue with the officials of the district.

With Agriculture Minister S Niranjan Reddy showing keen interest on the issue, the marketing department officials have already held discussions with the Minister on the issue for many times.

After elaborate discussions it has been decided that the model market would be constructed at a cost of Rs100 crore and accordingly proposals have been sent for the government. The market will have an integrated building. A private agency has been entrusted with the responsibility to prepare the report to build the integrated building with All Hi-tech and modern amenities.

While informing about the commencement of the works on the model market, the officials sources from the marketing department said that the works will commence very soon over 43.38 acres land located on survey no 109.

The existing market of the town is causing several problems to the farmers, commission agents and trade license owners. As it is located in the middle of the town. It is creating so many traffic problems in the area. The market was started on October 17, 1987. It is spread across 9.16 acres of land.

It has now proved to be inadequate due to the growing needs of the farmers and population of the district. The market presently has 54 trade license holders, 36 commission agents. The crowd at the market has gone up due to steep jump in the yield of crops like maize, groundnut and paddy.

Commenting on the issue, Agriculture marketing Officer S Swaran Singh said that the proposed model market yard would have all kinds of facilities like sheds, CC roads, rest rooms for the farmers.

"We have completed the survey for the construction of the yard. We are now waiting for the report. The DPR of the project is pending with the officials. The details related to the construction of the project will be out very soon," he said.
