Kothagudem: With increasing levels of pollutants in the air, it becomes every individual's duty to make efforts to bring down pollution levels, asserted trainee Collector D Anudeep.

He said the rapid progress in the field of science and technology has led to environmental degradation on an unprecedented scale. Air pollution has been leading to global warming and hazardous changes in the environment.

Anudeep took part in 'Praja Chaitanya Spoorthi', a programme organised by Khammam-based NGO Vibrants of Kalam here at Prakasam Stadium on Tuesday on the eve World Environment Day, which is celebrated on June 5 every year.

He administered a pledge to save the earth to the participants. Later addressing them, Anudeep said the air pollution has been causing severe health issues in humans and hence, it was the collective duty of every person to address the issue by planting more and more trees.

Speaking on the occasion, Vibrants of Kalam founder Vijay Kalam informed that United Nations which promotes celebration of World Environment Day came up with the theme 'Beat Air Pollution' and 'Take the Mask Challenge' to highlight the issue.

For overall improvement in health of individuals and environment, urgent steps were required to prevent air pollution. As per the United Nations data, nine out of 10 people worldwide were being exposed to air pollutants that exceed safe levels, he explained.

The programme was conducted in Kothagudem since the place was highly polluted after Hyderabad, he said, adding that saplings were distributed to the participants. The NGO office bearers Gopichand, Prajwal Kumar, Krishna, Swarna Madhuri and others were present.
