Hanamkonda: SFI slams Delhi police for thrashing JNU students

Hanamkonda: Condemning the police action on protesting Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) students, Warangal Urban District unit of Student Federation of India (SFI) staged a protest at Naim Nagar here on Wednesday. It may be mentioned here that the JNU students were attacked by the police, when they were marching to Parliament to protest against the hostel fee hike on November 18.

Speaking at the protest, SFI State vice-president D Naresh Yadav found fault with the Delhi police for brutally attacking the students. "The students were within their right. They exercised their democratic right to protest against and the fee hike. The demands of students - restoration of reservation of reservation for SC/ST students in the hostel, rollback of the proposed hostel fee hike etc. – are justifiable."

Even though the fee hike adversely affects the students, the authorities proceeded with their decision which is condemnable, he said and criticised the Narendra Modi-government stating that it was not the right way to deal with democratic protests.

Stating that beating up students indicates extreme authoritarianism on the part of the Central Government, Yadav said that Centre is trying to provoke the students.

Yadav threatened to launch nationwide agitation if the Centre fails to rollback of the fee structure in the JNU. SFI Urban district secretary B Santhosh, joint secretary M Prakash, Girls Co-convener Mishreen Sultana and district committee member P Varun were among others present. The students also burned the effigy of the Delhi police.
