Handloom connoisseurs take out rally to promote weaves in Nalgonda

Children dressed as Mahatma Gandhi paying tributes to the Father of the Nation on the occasion of National Handloom Day celebrations in Nalgonda on Wednesday

Nalgonda: The National Handloom Day-2019 was celebrated by the Gandhi Global Family and Gandhi Gyan Prathistaan (GGF & GGP) in Nalgonda town on Wednesday. As part of the programme, a rally with nearly 150 students dressed up as Mahatma Gandhi and hundreds of NSS volunteers was taken out from Clock Tower to Gandhi Park in Ramagiri.

Students held placards and raised slogans about the importance of handlooms and their weavers. District Education Officer Sarojini Devi, chief guest to the programme, garlanded the statue of Mahatma Gandhi and paid tributes to him.

Speaking on the occasion, she urged the people to wear clothes made of handloom textile at least twice in a week to support the handloom sector. Chief Advisor of GGF & GGP MV Gona Reddy presented books to the students who spoke about the significance of National Handloom Day .

In this programme, Mahatma Gandhi University NSS programme Coordinator Dr Domala Ramesh, former Councilor Ravula Srinivas Reddy, Women's College lecturers Dr Koyi Koteswar Rao, S Rajaram and Anita participated.

Meanwhile, the district administrations of Suryapet and Yadadri- Bhongir districts also conducted rallies in their district headquarters to mark the day.
