Haritha Haram: Kothagudem to plant 1.46 crore saplings

Kothagudem: The district authorities are all set to plant around 1.46 crore saplings in the upcoming Telanganaku Haritha Haram programme, to be held in July.

In this connection, District Collector Rajat Kumar Saini recently visited Koyagudem in Tekulapalli mandal and inspected the saplings grown in a nursery. According to officials, the saplings are being grown in about 479 nurseries across the district.

While the District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) would be planting 88 lakh saplings, the highest number of saplings, Forest department and TS Forest Development Corporation (TSFDC) together would plant 37 lakh saplings.

Of the 30 lakh saplings to be planted by the Forest department, 25 lakh would be forest species. TSFDC would be planting 6 lakh saplings. In all, 20 government departments and four municipalities, Kothagudem, Yellandu, Manuguru and Palvoncha will take part in the programme. Further, the Palvoncha municipality is gearing up for planting over 1,800 saplings that will act as mosquito repellents.

Similarly, the Agriculture department would plant about 1 lakh teak and sandalwood saplings each at various places in the district.
