Hi-Tec City to Kukatpally traffic hurdles set to ease
• Approach road earth work, retaining wall and RCC box drain works completed
• One side RUB part completed; second side is under progress.
Hyderabad: In order to reduce the heavy load on flyover between Hi-Tec City to Kukatpally, a four-lane road under bridge (RUB) is undertaken along with construction of box drain to avoid inundation near MMTS Railway Station.
GHMC Commissioner Lokesh Kumar said in a release that the government has sanctioned Rs 59.09 crore towards execution of these works under the Strategic Road Development Programme (SRDP). Due to insufficient carrying capacity of the existing pipe culvert near bridge no:215, heavy inundation was taking place near the water vent resulting in huge traffic congestion. Now, the pipe capacity of the existing culvert has been enhanced duly laying 4 rows of 1,200 mm dia RCC pipes in addition to the existing two rows of 450 mm dia RCC pipes there by increasing the discharge carrying capacity of the culvert to 5 times the earlier discharge.
The construction of RCC box drain for a length of 250m is also completed ensuring free flow of water without causing any inundation near the bridge during the monsoon period. Construction of RCC retaining walls, a typical structure of integrated portion comprising both storm water drain cum underpass, remodeling of existing pipe culvert was taken up and completed within a short span of two months duly utilising the no traffic period during lock down.
