High court to hear plea against demolition of Errum Manzil today
Hyderabad: The Division Bench of the Telangana High court comprising Chief Justice Raghavendra Singh Chauhan and Justice Shameem Akhtar on Wednesday heard arguments in a petition filed by Lubna Sharwath against the construction of new Assembly and Council buildings at Errum Manzil and demolition of heritage structures at Errum Manzil.
Counsel Rachna Reddy, representing the petitioner, told the bench that the State government had removed the Errum Manzil building from the list of protected monuments to enable it to construct new Assembly building.
Rachna Reddy further contended that the State government had not paid due compensation to the Nawabs for 12 acres of the 98 acres of land acquired by it. She urged the court to issue directions to the State government to pay compensation to the Nawabs and stop the demolition of the buildings till the payment was made.
It may be recalled that, the State Government has filed its counter affidavit in the case before the High Court on Tuesday in which it apprised the High court that the Errum Manzil heritage building did not find any mention in the Telangana Heritage (Protection, preservation and conservation and maintenance) Act-2017.
