Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) is gearing up to meet the water crisis with a slew of measures after the water supply from Singur and Manjeera were mandated to halt their water supply.

As a result, there is a shortage of 52 MGD water out of which the HMWSSB would be providing the 35 MGD water from the Godavari through a 46 km long ring main pipeline (transmission setup system) whose construction was completed 15 days ago, and remaining 17 MGD water would be supplied water from Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs.

Sharing the summer action plan, Managing Director of HMWSSB Dana Kishore said, "To overcome the current situation of water scarcity after water supply from Singur and Manjeera is halted, we have come up with a summer action plan to fight the water scarcity in the twin city."

Serilingampally, Rajendra Nagar and Kukatpally are the three areas which face acute water scarcity compared to other parts of the twin cities.

In these areas there are 10,000 connections.

Water Board deploys tankers once in three days in these three areas and on alternate days in other parts of the city.

To increase their water tanker supply facility, HMWSSB has developed 20 new fillings stations which will work along with the 70 currently running filling stations.

Till date, the water tanker supply system worked in two shifts, but henceforth, the deployment of tankers would be in three shifts 24x7 all across the twin city.

Two mobile modular plants worth Rs 75 lakh each is to be installed by HMWSSB at Osmansagar and Himayatsagar reservoirs within a week to supply water to Serilingampally, Rajendra Nagar, and Kukatpally and nearby areas, each modular plant has a capacity of treating 5MGD water at a time.

600 free tankers and 525 private tankers are supplying water every day.

Each tanker is making 3 to 4 trips working 24x7, HMWSSB has ordered all the non-registered private tankers to register as more 100 tankers are to be added, out of which 30 to 40 tankers will supply water in Serilingampally, Rajendra Nagar and Kukatpally and the rest 50 will be supplying to rest of the twin city.

10 special officers have been appointed for inspection and monitoring the water supply, especially in Serilingampally, Rajendra Nagar and Kukatpally as they have reported a reduction of 0.5MGD in the water supply.
