Hong Kong firm AECOM to make Hyderabad a global city

Hyderabad: Telangana government will be taking the help the of Hong Kong-based world-renowned consultancy AECOM to promote Hyderabad a global city.

This company will provide specialised designs for city development and remedies to the growing problems mainly traffic congestion, revival of lakes and development of parks in Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC).

It may be mentioned here that good number of lakes have been encroached by several people, including some big realtors. How the government would tackle this problem remains to be seen.

The AECOM delegation led by its president Sean CS Chiao on Friday met Chief Secretary SK Joshi. Following the discussions, the team had with the chief secretary and the MAUD Secretary Arvind Kumar, Chiao is said to have agreed to help the state government in preparing the designs for the development of the city.

AECOM will give proposals on issues like traffic management, employment generation, beautification of lakes, civil infrastructure, architectural designs and transportation system. The company official said that Hyderabad has every potential to grow on a faster pace and compete with other cities in the world.

The Chief Secretary requested the company to suggest reforms that were needed to bring institutional changes to put the city on the world tourism map and as one of the best destinations for investments.

Officials said that the company will prepare the designs and submit to the government in six months' time. The government is keen to develop a master plan in consultation with the company aiming to achieve desirable goals in the improvement of infrastructure in a time-bound manner.
