Hospitals told to take steps for effective disposal of biomedical waste in Khammam

Khammam: It is mandatory for all the government and the private hospitals to see to it that the biomedical waste generated is properly disposed of, said District Collector RV Karnan.

Speaking at an awareness meet conducted by the Pollution Control Board (PCB) here at Bhaktha Ramadasu Kalakshethram (BRK) Hall in Khammam on Wednesday, the Collector said it was the responsibility of every government and private hospital to ensure effective disposal of biomedical waste. He suggested the hospitals to keep the biomedical waste in separate bags and advised them to not to dump in municipal tractors and other government vehicles and dispose of effectively through other ways.

"All the hospitals must possess a certificate issued by the PCB. Ayush and veterinary hospitals also need to get a certificate from the PCB," he added.

On the occasion, he advised the private hospitals to give importance to normal deliveries. He directed the officials concerned to create awareness about seasonal diseases, their prevention and the cure.

Khammam Municipal Commissioner J Srinivas, District Medical and Health Officer Dr Kalavathi Bai, DCH Dr B Venkateswarlu, Pollution Control Board Executive Engineer Ravi Shanker, Indian Medical Association Secretary Rehana Begum, TANA president Dr Gurunadha Rao and doctors and staff of various hospitals attended the meeting.
