Gundala (Huzurnagar): In a gruesome incident, a 70-year-old man, in a fit of rage, stabbed his wife with a knife and killed her and later died while trying to commit suicide. The incident took place at Thurkshlapuram of Gundala mandal in Yadadri-Bhongir district on Friday. The deceased were identified as K Suraiah and his 65-year-old wife Manikyamma.
According to police and the locals, Suraiah attacked Manikyamma, working as an attender at the local Anganwadi centre, with a knife when she was taking a nap at the centre.
It is learnt that the old couple have been living separately for the last few months due to financial differences and used to frequently quarrel. Suraiah, an alcoholic, arrived at the Anganwadi centre and stabbed Manikyamma to death.
Though eyewitnesses tried to stop Suraiah, their efforts went in vain. Soon, Suraiah fled the spot and reached his home. He fell down, suffered head injuries and died while trying to hang himself to a rod in the ceiling of his house.
Based on the compliant of the deceased couple's younger son, the local police registered a case and shifted the dead bodies to the government hospital in Aler for post-mortem. Further investigation is underway.
