Hyderabad: 4 members of attention diversion gang held
Hyderabad: The Asifnagar police arrested the four members of an attention diversion gang on Friday and recovered 35 tolas of gold ornaments and net cash of Rs 8 lakh all worth Rs 20 lakh from their possession. The accused identified as Gayathri (31), M Jyothi (38), Kokila (30) and S Raju (35). Efforts are on to nab the other absconding accused Anitha.
According to City Police Commissioner Anjani Kumar, on June 29, the complainant P Jaya Lakshmi (69), a resident of Mehdipatnam, was travelling from Secunderabad to Mehdipatnam, the accused stole 25 tolas of gold ornaments from her bag. The CP said the accused hail from Bengaluru in Karnataka, and all are relatives and friends.
Under the direction of main accused Gayathri, the other accused commit theft of purse and bags containing cash and gold ornaments in crowded buses. Till now, the gang committed several offences including 13 cases in Hyderabad, Cyberabad and Rachakonda limits.
The accused target the ladies, who carry handbags and purses in the buses. They surround them with their kids and divert their attention and commit thefts from bags by opening zip duly taking advantage of heavy rush. After committing offence, they immediately get down from the bus in the next stop.
The accused share the stolen property and spend cash lavishly by staying in hotel rooms and in shopping.
